Children Discovery Room

Pakistan Museum of Natural History as an educational institution is using modern methods to make learning enjoyable. The PMNH is doing so by making displays relevant to the children education by arousing their curiosity about different displays. For this purpose it has established a Children Discovery Room narrating the ecological system where all living and non-living things are part and parcel and dependent on each other.

When the children enter the Discovery Room they find a huge tree trunk. They learn from this display that how they can calculate the age of a tree by counting its annual rings; and also about weather conditions from the gaps between these annual rings.

An attractive three-dimensional diorama provides insight to children about Food Cycle. This diorama is based on information that how different animals, birds and plants are dependent on each other for their food, and lays stress on the conservation of eco-system

In some showcases economic plants such as mushrooms, timbers and edible oil producing plants have been displayed with interesting information about them. In three showcases specimens of Sedimentary Rocks, Metamorphic Rocks and Igneous Rocks have been displayed which provide information about their chemistry, industrial uses with products prepared from these rocks. Displays about life cycles of termite, butterfly etc. Honey bee are also part of the Children Discovery Room which create curiosity among the children that how different animals live in the form of communities in a disciplined way. Another showcase provides information to children about pre-historic wildlife, particularly the dinosaurs. The display is based on small models of different species of birds, butterflies ,plants, timber, peanutsfishes.

one of the display provides information that how humane being learnt to make different tools by observing beaks of birds. This interesting display creates a lot of questions in the minds of children and arouses curiosity among them to learn more about birds behavior.
