DINOSAURS |
|
  |
Dinosaurs were a group of
extraordinary animals that lived on earth millions of
years ago. These animals appeared on earth around 190 million years ago and after
living 120 million years they perished dramatically. The
extinction of dinosaurs is a mystery. Some people think
that due to shortage of food and extreme cold weather at
the outset of ice age they could not survive and became
extinct, while others think that dinosaurs had become so
huge that they needed tons of food but certain
environmental changes had made availability of food
impossible for them, which resulted in their extinction.
Whereas some people say that during this period there was
rain of meteorites, which killed the dinosaurs. From
various countries of the world complete fossilized
skeletons of dinosaurs have been found, even from some
places their fossilized eggs have been discovered, which
have been exhibited in various natural history museums. |
|
There was great variation in
size, habits and shape of dinosaurs. Some dinosaurs were
huge in size like mountains, and were up to 85 feet
in length, up to 40 feet in height and about 70 tons in
weight, whereas some were of the size of hen. Some of
these animals were used to flying in the air while some
were used to swim in water. Despite variation in size,
habits and behavior the dinosaurs had some common
characteristics, as they had scales on their body and
their reproductive system was based on eggs. |

COMPSOGNATHUS |
|
Compsognathus were the smallest kind of dinosaurs. They
were like hen in size. They were very fast in speed and
with the help of their sharp teeth preyed on lizards,
frogs and insects to meet their food requirement. |
|
BRACHIOSAURS |
|
These dinosaurs
were herbivorous. Brachiosaurs were about 70
tons in weight, 70 feet long and 39 feet in height, which
was equal to four-storey building. |
|
TRICEROTOPS |
|
These dinosaurs had three horns on their head and a
skeletal frill on neck. They were vegetarian and similar
to present day Rhinos. They weighted upto 5 tons and were
30 feet long. |
|
TYRANSAURUS |
|
Tyransaurus were carnivorous. They were upto 49 feet long
and had a very heavy head with strong jaws. They used to
consume enormous food in a single bite. |
|
DIPLODOCUS |
|
These
herbivorous dinosaurs were about 15 tons in weight and 86
feet long. They used their long neck and tail for balance
and defense. |
