Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH) Islamabad, was established in 1976, under the administrative control of Pakistan Science Foundation(PSF), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan. PMNH has been able to achieve considerably both in the field of scientific endeavour as well as in terms of public education and display. Scientists belonging to the PMNH are actively engaged in the collection, identification, curations, preservation and all other research activities pertaining to natural history specimens found in the country. So for more than one million specimens have been collected and preserved.
PMNH has published 12 books and 540 research articles in generals of national and international repute. PMNH researcher have presented more than two hundred papers in various nationa and international conferences , seminars, workshop etc.
Museum plays important role to sensitize and educate the community for conservation of these valuable resources through displays, dioramas, workshops, lectures, films, brochure and other modern means of communication.
The distinction of PMNH lies not only in research but also in implementing mass education and awareness about conservation of biodiversity and environmental issues through 3-dimensional displays and dioramas, a source of attraction for all ages, children and adults, illiterate or the professional scholars. The scientific information is translated in the form of an easy-to-understand and attractive medium so that the information not only reaches general public but is also easily understood and digested by them. Usually such mass communication medium is in the form of 3-dimensional diorama, which are visually quite attractive and information.
